Ceasefire Now.
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) again calls on the Australian Government to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and for international monitors to establish the facts on the ground.
AFIC condemns the remarks made by former Prime Minister Scott Morrison in not agreeing to a ceasefire, as reported in the Australian Newspaper today, as unacceptable. Framing this as self-defense is concerning and gives license to continue the killings of civilians. AFIC considers any excuses against a ceasefire a grave betrayal of humanitarian law. Not calling for a ceasefire is granting license to kill innocent civilians in the thousands for a political objective. It is shameful and a stain on our shared humanitarian ideals and the rules-based order that the Australian Government aspires to.
‘It is most important, that right now, the slaughtering of civilians stops, the attack from all parties stops, that peace is given a chance. Law, not war is needed.’
Dr Rateb Jneid, President of AFIC
AFIC affirms that all life is sacred.
AFIC continues to call for a release of all hostages and all those held without charge in Israeli jails to be released.
CEASEFIRE NOW.
