The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) expresses profound sorrow and condemnation following the appalling stabbing of Mar Mari Emmanuel, in Sydney’s western region.

Such an act of brutality stands in stark opposition to our cherished values of peace, empathy, and reciprocal respect. AFIC vehemently denounces this atrocious act with utmost severity.

We have today meet with NSW Government and faith leaders and from a position of unity shared our thoughts and ideas, and we look forward to the leadership of the NSW Government on this issue.

We unite with all religious leaders and the NSW Government to address this shared concern collectively. We acknowledge the Government’s implementation of augmented powers to expedite the investigation. AFIC endorses a thorough and fitting inquiry and response, urging everyone to assist the investigation with any pertinent information.

The continued violence and attacks that then continued against police is also unacceptable, and all people have the right to work and live in peace, especially those that work to keep us safe. We ask for continued maturity and restraint with all.

We implore everyone to persist in fostering the respect and harmony that are the foundations of our thriving, diverse society.

AFIC, established in 1964, stands as the Peak Muslim Organisation in Australia, with 170 members including 9 State and Territory Councils. It has a rich history of pioneering numerous community services and actively advocating for the rights and representation of the Muslim community.
