Harun Abdullah

Harun Abdullah is the longest serving member of the Muslims Australia Executive Committee. His experience is board ranging and he is a champion for social justice and human rights.
He holds a BA(hon) from the University of Tasmania and is an employee of Centrelink. His experience is wide ranging and includes:
Member of Tasmanian Muslim Association since 1984
Secretary of the Islamic Centre of Tasmania Trust Inc 1994 to date
Member of Muslims Australia Executive committee from 1998 to present, positions held include Treasurer, Secretary and Assistant Secretary
Harun is especially concerned for the welfare of newly arrived refugees and also interested in homeless issues, mental health and drug addiction problems. He has worked as a welfare officer with the St Vincent de Paul Society for 11 years. He has been on the board of the Migrant Resource Centre (Southern Tasmania) for 12 years and served as Chairman.
He is particularly interested in strengthening relationships between Muslims and other faith communities. He is passionate about dispelling myths and misunderstanding about Muslims and vilification of the Muslim community. He also seeks to promote a policy of access and equity across the board
