The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) announces the completion of its annual audits for Halal accreditation, addressing community concerns about Halal chicken certification. AFIC assures the public that all AFIC certified products, including chickens, strictly adhere to Islamic traditions and meet audit requirements and Australian Standards.

Dr. Rateb Jneid, AFIC President, stated, “We take community concerns seriously. While confident in our processes, we conducted additional audits, including an independent veterinarian, to ensure our certified chickens comply with Halal requirements.”

During the audit, independent veterinarian Dr. Roughan provided technical expertise, stating, “I can show our results to any cardiologist, and they will see that the chickens were still alive after the stunning process.” Certification operates on a cost recovery model, primarily a community service.

AFIC actively seeks improvements in certification processes, collaborating with suppliers to align with Halal and Australian Government Standards. More information is available in the executive summary, with more detailed results in Early 2024.

AFIC exclusively certifies for its agency, refraining from commenting on external processes. Audit results specifically pertain to AFIC sites. For AFIC certified companies, visit www.afic.com.au/certification.

Dr. Rateb Jneid emphasized, “Our focus is on maintaining certification integrity. We offer clear and transparent information on AFIC-affiliated sites
