Muslims Australia – AFIC held its 55th Annual Congress in Sydney on the 22nd-23rd of June 2019.
The Congress brings together delegates from all of the State and Territory Councils and Member societies from across the country to review the year past and contribute to the next years goals and objectives. This year saw nearly 100 delegates from across the country come together in a spirit of unity and a will to continue the change that the organisation has been undergoing to better serve the Muslim community of Australia.
Dr Rateb Jneid, President, stated “This is the second congress for this Board and I commend all of the delegates for the spirit shown throughout the congress and for their contribution to our plan for the next 12 months. We are confident that Muslims Australia – AFIC will continue to go from strength to strength.”
In guiding the work of the organisations for the next 12 months the Congress passed some very important motions.
These included:
- That Muslims Australia – AFIC will continue to recognise the status of our First Nations and support them, in ways that are led by them, in their fight for recognition and reconciliation;
- That Muslims Australia – AFIC shall focus its efforts on supporting refugees and asylum seekers and engage strongly with Government on the policies that impact upon them;
- That Muslims Australia – AFIC will continue to challenge the rising Islamophobia in this country at all levels
Muslims Australia – AFIC is committed to continue to improve and evolve as an organisation and to represent the Muslim community of Australia on these important issues.
